Research
Faculty and student research projects are crucial components of the Global Sustainability Initiative. Research by faculty members may be independent of teaching efforts or integrated with graduate and undergraduate lecture courses, capstone seminars and design studios. Undergraduate students enrolled in the Global Sustainability and Global Studies – Environments + Sustainability programs gain research experience at the beginning and end of their studies. Global Sustainability, the required foundation course for both programs, includes a collaborative Think Global/Act Local research project that introduces students to research methods that they immediately apply to a real-world sustainability challenge in the community. A required Capstone Seminar project provides the academic space, time, and mentoring for students to integrate and synthesize the knowledge and skills obtained in the Global Studies curriculum into a coherent research project in preparation for each student’s chosen post-graduation path.
